Winter: It’s On

Apropos of nothing other than having a serious ski itch right now, NOAA regional service for my favorite hangout, Mammoth Mountain, has issued this warning:

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS REMAINS IN
EFFECT FROM 4 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 4 PM PST SUNDAY.

* TIMING: SNOW WILL BEGIN THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY OR SUNDAY NIGHT. PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW WILL AFFECT MONO COUNTY LATE TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING AND SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 3 TO 5 FEET ABOVE 8000 FEET... WITH 1 TO 3 FEET BELOW 8000 FEET.
