2009 in Losses from Natural Catastrophes

Reinsurer Munich RE has out its annual list of the top  natural disasters worldwide in 2009. While the losses from such incidents was down markedly (on fewer hurricanes), the number of such incidents climbed in 2009. Here is the list, first by insured losses and then by fatalities. (It’s worth pointing out that total insured losses only came to half of the $29-billion loan to J.P. Morgan for the Bear Stearns bailout in 2008.)
