The Debt-ification of the World: 1999-2010

By animating a new Economist “global debt clock” I have tried to show the debt-ification of the world over the last decade. The figure shows public debt as a percentage of GDP from 1999-2010. As you might expect, the pace picked up in the last few years, but the debt had been growing all the while. Click to watch.
