The Future of TV, the Master of My Sports Entertainment Domain, etc.
Fan-boy cycle-geek material ahead …
I know it's nowhere near the first time this sort of thing has been done, but I really liked the live Internet site/thingie/tool for watching the just-completed Tour of California. It combined live data, like GPS, speed and location, with multiple live camera angles, plus location, picture-in-picture, and so on. It was like being a TV producer, except with no irritating viewers calling about my quirky camera picks, but me still having better tools than the average network guy of even a few years ago.
Proving the point, I briefly turned on the live TV (call it TV-TV) coverage thinking I might get an HD picture or something, but I didn't. Worse yet, the TV-TV coverage was 15-minutes behind, which felt more fraudulent for having another real live feed in front of me. So I turned TV-TV off again and went back to being the master of my sports-entertainment domain.
Sure, TV may not be the future of TV-TV , but it is a future of at least some of the uses of the Communications Medium Usually Known As Television.
