Election Factoid: Total Voters, Now and Then

Wildly busy today, but a quick election factoid that got my attention:

Voters in U.S. 2008 presidential election: c. 131 million
Total voters in all U.S. pres. elections, 1788-1908: c. 137 million

Relatedly, voter turnout is currently thought to have been around 64.1%, which is huge, the most since 1960. Put another way, almost as many people voted for Barack Obama as voted in the entire 2006 mid-term Federal election.

Just found the following in my email spam folder. Federal Reserve-related spam. When the Fed has enough broad consumer name recognition to prompt people to open goofy emails then you know something is badly wrong in the world.
