Audio/Transcript of Palin Prank Call

Not financial-related, but the audio/transcript of this prank call to vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin from a Canadian comedy duo is almost beyond belief. More here.

Eye-opening factoid from Inside B&C Lending:

Sneak Peak at Weekend Reading

Here is a sneak peek at some links from my weekly Weekend Reading column over at TheStreet.com. While last week in the column I had argued we were due for a big bounce higher, I can’t honestly say I thought it would be soon and so visceral.

  • Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff still being bullish in interview (S.F. Chronicle)
  • Britons are far better at frugality than conspicuous consumption (Telegraph)
  • First Solar’s peek at 2009 surprisingly positive (Fortune)
  • The looming super-subprime crisis: Social security plus Medicare (Fortune)
  • How Las Vegas came crashing down in a frenzy of “liar loans” and fraud  (Bloomberg Markets Magazine)
  • Fund managers learning all sorts of new ways to say “Whoops” (WashingtonPost)

Random Ghana Company Factoids du Jour

I’ve been following for a few years the surprising resurgence – and I use that word advisedly -- in the Ghana economy. I’ll return to that subject in a future post, as I maintain that improving economies in some central African countries remains almost entirely overlooked, but today I thought I’d share a few Ghana company names. Courtesy of a piece at NewGeography:

  • Man! Know Thyself (Pharmacy)
  • Is Not By Might Alone (Construction)
  • But Like A Chain Ventures (Hardware)
