PMCS/BRCM: Time for Some Comm Semiconductor Consolidation?
With news today of major management changes at PMC-Sierra, plus Broadcom bouncing along the bottom, and issues elsewhere, am I the only one feeling like we should finally be seeing some consolidation? This sector, while marginally better positioned for a turn than it was a few months ago, still feels crowded with competitors, and could use some overdue winnowing down.
Say you were in charge, who would you bang together? I'm thinking PMC-Sierra and Broadcom, but I'm sure there are others.

mh497 -- I had same reaction, which is just another reason why consolidation is overdue.
Come on, that's not fair. Last October, BRCM's mkt cap was over half what TXN is today and nearly 2/3rds the size of AMZN - have you heard of them? They invented the book. Anyhoo, BRCM is a big company.
To answer the question:
QCOM and BRCM should merge to stop the consistent lawyer enrichment.
TXN should buy SLAB, STM, FSL (I know: private now) and MCHP and BRCM + MRVL if QCOM can't.
While we are on the subject - ALL the memory guys should just chuck in the towel and merge: QI, MU, Hynix, Inotera, etc... even SPSN.

I didn't actually realize that these companies still existed.
Does bring back some Internet bubble memories though..
