Google Announces Layoffs
Granted, the following Google layoffs news is because of the DoubleClick acquisition, but in all the corporate-speak there is something that feels like a kind of augury:
As with most mergers, there may be reductions in headcount. We expect these to take place in the U.S. and possibly in other regions as well. We know that DoubleClick is built on the strength of its people. For this reason we’ll strive to minimize the impact of this process on all of our clients and employees.
Translation: We're letting people go. And a bunch of 'em, at that.

Hilarious. Although to be fair, this was also GOOG's largest acquisition to date both in terms of headcount and dollars spent. I would be more surprised if they -didn't- cut some heads.
It's just good management. There are always lots of redundant jobs in a deal this like.
Also, google needs to keep staff quality up, and that means culling. You barnacles over the years otherwise.

Maybe some pro-active language to as to what they'll do to help people transition as opposed to their passive approach. I agree, they could have and should have done a better job communicating.
