Sergey & Jerry: Swapped Scripts?
Late last week Google's Sergey Brin called the Microsoft bid for Yahoo "unnerving"; over the weekend Yahoo's Jerry Yang called it "galvanizing". Does that strike anyone other than me as precisely backwards? It's great news for Google, what with its two largest competitors lost in pricing struggles and integration problems, while it's nothing but trouble for Yang's Yahoo.

Brookings Fellow Gregg Eaterbrook recently did an analysis of the costs of being a James Bond villain (can't find the link). For example, its very expensive to hollow out a mountain on a tropical island, or operate a space program without detection.
Apparently Bill Gates does not have sufficient wealth to have his opponents dipped in gold, but he does have the means to have the staff of Yahoo plated with zinc.









Perhaps a different perspective would serve here: Yahoo is London during the Blitz; Yang is Churchill (a bit of a stretch, I know). He's just trying to rally the citizens in the face of overwhelming odds, but unfortunately for him, there may not be an America across the pond to bail him out while he holds off the Germans.
