Winner: Blade Runner DVD Contest
Better late than never, but I really should announce the winner of my Blade Runner DVD contest. The idea, as you may recall, was to have people write the shortest and most amusing paragraph of text using Lake Superior State University's list of the most over-used words of 2007.
There were some spectacular entries -- including a few unprintable but funny ones from Wall Street-ers that came via email -- but they were all such high quality that I'm going to give the win to the first entry, from Rory. Here is his submission:
Back in the day, before waterboarding was the new black Friday, our government authored a sweet proposition to send a surge of troops into the perfect storm that is iraq. Through careful wordsmithing and many webinars, they organically decimated our post 9/11 economy and led to a pop in canadian currency values. I don't mean to throw them under the bus, but if they could give me back my low cost of poutine, I might get emotional. I guess that's random, but it is what it is.
Emotive, touching, and less opaque than a Starbucks press release, we have our winner. Read the rest of the non-email entries here. And Rory, I'm going to need you to email me with your contact information if you would like the Blade Runner DVD.
