The dictionary suggests that a pivot is a fixed pin or short axis, on the end of which a wheel or other body turns.

So basic physics tells me this means as cycles go, nothing will happen in 2008 because it is the pivot at the centre of the wheel that turns. No? Am I missing something? Or were the PR monkeys/ analysts who write these releases exempt from Physics in school? Just wondering...

According to the OED Cyclic means "belonging in a chronological cycle" As Shefaly points out above this sentence means that nothing will happen in 2008 as it is the year around which all other events shall change.

The beginning of the year will look much different than the end.

Does the passing of time "look" like anything. Certainly the events that occur during the year will look different. There is some doubt about which years are being referred to although the phrase "the year" does seem to suggest that the reference is to 2008.
