Best Film of 2007: Joe Strummer

strummer I just finished watching my pick as the best film of 2007. Its name? Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten.

Granted, I didn’t exactly see many films in 2007, but nevertheless, I know greatness when I see it. This Julian Temple documentary is artfully done, and is an appropriately — given the subject — noisy, messy, and maddening piece of work. A riveting look at fame, innovation, and creativity, it ends up being the definitive story of one of one of modern music’s most fascinating talents, Joe Strummer of The Clash.

Find a copy and watch it. You can thank me later.

Regarding the best film of 2007…
Have you seen Zeitgeist (www.zeitgeistmovie.com the movie )? It has to be one of the most interesting movies of 2007, and the whole thing is online streaming from Google Video.
I have no affiliation with the movie, so i have an objective stance when i say: No matter your personal of political views its worth the watch. Watch if from beginning to end, its worth a look, some interesting questions are raised.
    Enjoy!

I don’t think Joe made any secret of his background. I didn’t agree with his politics, but I loved his music and respect his integrity.

After reading your post yesterday I was motivated to watch the film, as I’d noted it being available on PPV through my cable provider. I’m a long-time Clash fan, so it was interesting to see the history of it all. Too bad he passed just as he was getting back into a really nice flow.

I’m a Clash fan, so I will look for this film.
They have been ragged by many for their fake posturing and de-elocution lessons (see Parsons, Burchill book), but I always loved their songs.
Another great movie/doc that came out recently is American Hardcore. It chronicles the rise of the North American hardcore punk scene and provides some very interesting observations of America and its youth culture along the way. You might have seen it lately on IFC.
