Surrealism in San Diego

Things spotted this morning during the San Diego wildfires while I bought groceries and gassed up the car:

  • Police cars everywhere, and fire trucks screaming by on a regular basis
  • Kids walking to school with bandannas over their mouths (what school isn’t closed today?)
  • A crying woman at a gas station filling her car while her husband, two kids, and myriad personal belongings were inside
  • People at the grocery store filling dual carts with supplies
  • The garbage truck and recycling truck passing by our house doing their usual pickup, as if nothing is happening
  • A pocket of blue sky overhead, but high and ominous clouds of mustard and ochre smoke obscuring the northern horizon

Paul, I am not sure how close the fires are from you, but you better be careful, not only because of the fires but mostly because of the irrational behaviour of other persons. I hope that everything ends well for you and your neighbours.

California is burning and it is awful! I want to know what our state is doing to put in some initiatives into action to avoid this stuff in the future. I refuse to just let nature burn up this entire state every October and have us sit here and not try to prevent it.
    Sad-sad-sad.
