On Yahoo Call

I’m on the Yahoo quarterly call. Results were okay, almost certainly better than expected.

More when news warrants. So far it feels like the calm before the storm.

[Update] Okay, that wasn’t a bad call, but it also felt sort of meandering and anti-climactic. There is more frustration among the analyst community than showed on the call, and Yang et al., didn’t do the best possible job communication the changes to the company’s strategy.

It’s remarkable how quickly someone like Yang – a startup maverick back in the day – can sit there with a straight face and spew out that mindless corporate-speak on that call. I was going to say I was disgusted by it but then thought that’s too harsh. I then I realized it wasn’t. Any old time employees must be gagging at how he’s changed.

what would a real maverick have said then?

    Certainly not this:
“So the goal is to turn Yahoo! into a company that powers and delights all of its communities by creating indispensable experiences.”
Hilarious. YY is right. He wasn’t always like this.
