Best Colleges for Entrepreneurs: An Oxymoron?

Is the whole idea of "Best Colleges for Entrepreneurs" an oxymoron? I got to thinking about the preceding in scanning Fortune Small Business’s new list of the best said colleges. While the number of such programs is up 10-fold over the last 20 years — which is an admittedly an educational entrepreneurial achievement — they still seem somewhat suspect to me.

Two points:

  1. No successful entrepreneurs I know took programs in entrepreneurship; they were too busy learning from and being entrepreneurs.
  2. It is a little strange that the programs are so heavily concentrated on the east coast. Granted, there are more colleges on the east coast, but shouldn’t more of the best entrepreneur-centric colleges be where more of the young, college-ready entrepreneurs are?

I’m happily convinced otherwise, but let’s just say I’m suspicious and need better data.
