I’m a California Real Estate Broker, and So’s My Wife

Fun factoid from the (until recently) real estate mad California market. The following figure compares the percentage of the California non-farm workforce made up by real estate brokers/salespeople this past June, and ten years earlier in June of 1997.  California’s non-farm workforce has grown by 2-million over the decade, while real estate licensees have grown by 216,061 in the same period.

Pretty much to be expected, I would think. In a hot real estate market every Ne’er Do Well, Rainbow Chaser and Marginal Individual rushes out and either gets their Realty Licence or becomes a Mortgage Broker.
It’s a great indicator of a Market Top, though!
