Me and Hurrican Dean

I'm supposed to be giving a talk in Cuernavaca, Mexico, next Friday. Note where Hurricane Dean, a likely Cat 4 storm, is forecast to be by next Wednesday, and keep in mind that Cuernavaca is a little south of the "x" in Mexico.

I live in FL and am acutely interested in them 'Canes...amazing the technology that goes in to creating that cone you see up there...see below

I have lost a few bets in recent years betting against the path of projected hurricane cones, though obviously they change course every few minutes.

If I were you, wait till Monday. The conference organizers will likely make the decision for you...And the cone will be a lot more accurate

FWIW... here's my crystal ball:

I believe Hurricane Dean will most likely come ashore in Texas, close to the border with Mexico - but on the Texas side.

Re the storm, it will not be too much of a problem for you, because Cuernavaca is higher than the sea level (1600m?) and surrounded two thirds by tall mountains, so at most you will enjoy some summer rain.
Also, because of the high mountains between Yucatan and the center of the country, the storm would either lose its power or will be deviated to the Gulf. At most you can expect delays in your flights, because they change the flight trayectories in order to avoid turbulence.
The ones in big trouble are all the cities in the Yucatan Peninsula, who are almost at sea level and with no mountains, and the ones alongside the Gulf, like Veracruz and Ciudad del Carmen. The last three years in a row, very unfortunately, those cities had big losses and casualties due to the Hurricanes.
