Want to Start a Virtual World? Be Sure to Play Hockey
After the Club Penguin news today, a colleague of mine sent me the following entertaining note concerning the top five kid-centric virtual worlds (based on Hitwise data):Top 5, Runescape (UK), Webkinz (Can), ClubPenguin (Can), Stardoll (Sweden), Habbo (Finland) are all non-US companies. Further, they are all "cold" countries and other than the UK, good at hockey.
"Virtual world creation - why not, the only alternative was to get drunk and play hockey!"

Good point. Done.
That's not totally true, my favorite virtual world site, http://www.citypixel.com is US based!

You should note that those rankings are for virtual worlds for kids and teens.
