Bob Metcalfe, Temporary ex-VC
3Com founder -- and Ethernet inventor -- Bob Metcalfe is spending less time being a VC guy these days. Instead, he's the interim CEO of Polaris investee GreenFuel, where his first job was to cut staff from 43 employees to 28. Oh, ugh.It is a somewhat puzzling article, as Metcalfe is no cleantech (or bio) guy, as he concedes in the piece, so playing restructuring guy at same strikes me as a poor use of his time. Further, and more intriguingly, the author goes on to call Metcalfe a Polaris principal, which he has not been, unless he has had a recent demotion.
Mike, or anyone else at Polaris, care to comment?
