What Europe Really Needs is a Skype

Funny anecdote from an interview with Neil Rimer of Index Ventures. He was apparently at a recent conference in the Bay Area where one discussion was about whether it was worth doing doing venture investing outside the U.S., especially in Europe or Asia. Neil overheard someone saying, “Now, what Europe really needs is a Skype.”

Classic stuff. Watch here at around the 5:50 mark.

The overheard remark about Skype made for an amusing little anecdote. Did you happen to catch Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom on FT.com’s “View from the top” a couple of weeks ago?
See what you mean about the constant interruptions by the interviewer; terribly rude and annoying.

  2. Yes, saw the Zennstrom video. Spent some trying to figure out if I could syndicate the vid to this site, and then gave up trying. Good comments from him though.

Reminds me of President George W. Bush proclaimed, “The problem with the French is that they don’t have a word for entrepreneur.”
(there is some dispute as to the truth of this one)

I don’t know how to do that either but here are the video links (I have them sent to my email and will occasionally post them on my blog).
For anyone who’d like to see them, enjoy.
