Murdoch: Page 3 WSJ Girls, Free WSJ, and More
Time magazine has a lengthy interview with a typically feisty Rupert Murdoch in its upcoming issue. Read the whole thing, but here are some excerpts:On Dow Jones, and accusations that he would hurt the company:On his plans for the Wall Street Journal:
- "Why would I spend $5 billion for something in order to wreck it?”
- “The price of the Journal is $60 plus vitriol.”
- What if, at the Journal, we spent $100 million a year hiring all the best business journalists in the world? Say 200 of them. And spent some money on establishing the brand but go global … And then you make it free, online only. No printing plants, no paper, no trucks. How long would it take for the advertising to come? It would be successful, it would work and you’d make…a little bit of money.”
- “When the Journal gets its Page 3 girls, we’ll make sure they have MBAs.”

Come to think of it WSJ was never quite a regional or even a local paper. He would stand a better chance taking this product global than any other paper his money can buy.
In a global market, he's catering to just like the system is configured, the Arabs(dollars) on one hand, the Chinese(bonds) on the other and US in the middle(-man) and the rest of the world in between(follow the pied-piper's economic tune).

Yes!!! outside the box thinking all the way, love him or hate him this guy kicks ASS!!!, rup is tough to bet against, balls plus action = mega billionaire big money heavyweight that keeps the competiton scrambling, innovating and struggling to keep up----should be cool to see wsj tv
