Fun with EQO and Multi-protocol IM

Ventures West portfolio company EQO -- helmed by the estimable Bill Tam -- just launched its mobile VOIP client, complete with multi-protocol IM. So far, I'm impressed with its clean interface, thoughtful design, etc.

My biggest concern is battery life, so we'll know more about that shortly. Try it out and let me know what you think.

obDisclosure: EQO is an investee and so I'm horribly conflicted, which may mean I'm making things up and talking out of my hat.

I like the concept and love the idea of multiheaded IM on my mobile, but the software is horribly unstable on my Samsung A900.

Paul,

Here's my review of the IM client.

It's buggy, but shows a lot of promise.

You're right about the battery life issue, though. I had to recharge my phone twice during the day even after starting out with a full charge.

Paul,

Unfortunately, I could not try it since India is not supported. I am not sure how successful this will be given the fact that India and China are not supported.

I got it installed on my blackjack after updating the JVM (which actually solves some other annoying problems, so it was nice to get that done). The battery has held up much better than I expected. It does lose service a little more often than I'm really happy with, but in general I love it. It was a great way to kill some time while waiting for my buddy at Yankee Stadium yesterday.
