Teens and iPhone
Some useful stats on music/media markets from a new Piper Jaffray teen shopping survey:In addition, students were asked about their buying habits of MP3 players and online music. Of those students who own a MP3 player, 82 percent indicated that they also own some form of iPod, which is up from 79 percent in fall 2006. For online music services, 89 percent of students indicated that they use iTunes, slightly down from 91 percent in fall 2006. In total, 84 percent of the students had heard of Apple's iPhone and 25 percent said they would pay $500 for the iPhone.

25% said they would pay $500...is that their parents or their money? i.e. would their parents agree?
The problem is the iPhone requires a dataplan and there is currently no such thing as a family data plan. You need to purchase a dataplan for each handset.
If you're currently paying an extra $10 a month for a phone for your kid and letting your kid use your minutes it's one thing. How many parents are going to be willing to pony up an additional $40-$50 a month for a data plan for their kids?

Unfourtunately for Apple 68% of teens are on their parents cellular plan as extra handsets.
