Various people have pointed me to this, Lloyd most recently, so here is a truly stomach-churning way of looking at trends in U.S. home prices: A rollercoaster ride on the data.

Fun graph. Shame that it is linear not log scale.

It is the upward climb in prices that is exhilarating if you're a home owner and the downward plunge that is slow, tedious and painful (more so if you're a buyer seeking bottom).

Even so, it's a great visual analogy...

I wonder what it would look like with with the value of the dollar with respect to other world currencies factored in. Much of the last 6 years worth of stock increase has actuily been the deflation of the dollars worth not the increase of the stockmarket value.
