Defrag This!
I'm interested in issues around white noise, continuous partial attention, serendipitous discovery and the like. For example, many well-known digerati at ETech are fond of settling into busy conference sessions, only to immediately open their laptop and work away, meanwhile bathing in the stream of information from the stage. While continuous partial attention can become pathological, being immersed in quasi-relevant white noise can also be a path to recombining information in all sorts of new and interesting ways.To my way of thinking, this sort of thing -- the implicit web, freeform collaboration, tagging the miscellaneous (pace Dave Weinberger's grew new book) -- is the theme of Eric Norlin's new Defrag conference, where I'm on the advisory board. Should be interesting stuff, so check it out.
