Nick Carr has done an entertainingly ad hoc segmentation of the search industry based on the most popular searches of 2006:
… I think I can suggest the following market segmentation: Google users are dweebs. Yahoo users are horndogs. And AOL users are geezers.
This is wildly influenced by keyword filtering, but is still entertaining stuff.
