Scott Turow on the Death Penalty
Perhaps unsurprisingly, I found myself watching video tonight after Saddam Hussein's execution. It wasn't, however, the inevitable snuff stuff that will almost certainly find its way online. Instead it was Scott Turow talking in visceral, ruminative, and convincing fashion (here in San Diego three years ago) about his own path to changing his mind and becoming a death penalty critic:

I'm pleased to learn that my own view, formulated independently, is similar to Turow's: many truly deserve to die for their crimes but the government can't be trusted with the task of sorting these from the innocent and therefore shouldn't be allowed to execute.
