Donald Rumsfeld Learns the Art of Perpetual Beta
Ex-Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was cribbing from the Tech 2.0 playbook shortly before he left his position. Here he is in a classified memo describing a new approach to dealing with the U.S.'s troubled policy in Iraq:"Announce that whatever new approach the U.S. decides on, the U.S. is doing so on a trial basis. This will give us the ability to readjust and move to another course, if necessary, and therefore not 'lose.'"Rummie has apparently learned the doctrine of perpetual beta as practiced by a host of companies, from Google on down.

The only difference is that Rummy's doublespeak has cost tens of thousands of lives. And why use a euphemism like "troubled policy" when a simple and direct word like "disaster" will do?
