Question on Stock Ticker Lookup

Quick question: Any readers know a good way of doing bulk stock ticker lookups in Excel? I use XLQ for most stock-related stuff in Excel, and it doesn’t seemingly do ticker lookups.

Failing something that does live lookups, a full list of all U.S. equities, with both names and tickers, would do the trick.

Paul, it’s half past midnight in Tenerife but if you don’t get this by the time I wake up I’ll try to get the list for you.

  2. Paul-
I use XLQ as well and populate my full market list using the export tool in TC2005. I’ll send you an email in a couple of minutes with todays list.

I’d monkeyed around two years ago with a script that pulled stock info from Yahoo!, stuffed it into a database, which then could be viewed on the web. The refresh was intended to be daily but it could have been ‘every few minutes’ or shorter – I’d built in a delay in the script so I could watch it do it’s thing.
If you refresh every x minutes and dump the ‘ticker data’ to RSS .. would that work? I’d played around with doing so but no one seemed interested and it fell by the wayside.

    Paul,
Thanks for the challenge… I wrote a macro that will do this with a contiguous list of company names.
