Real Estate Roundup: Incentives Galore, Shoot the Messenger, and Social News

Some interesting real estate news has crossed my e-desk today, so I thought I'd just share it en masse:
  • We're into "shoot the messenger" mode in Florida and California real estate, with newspaper readers sending hate mail to writers who they think are killing the real estate market. (OC Register / Sarasote Herald-Tribune)
  • August new homes sales are up slightly, but's mostly because of revisions to July figures. (NY Times)
  • New homebuilders are throwing in massive incentives to sell homes. (Bloomberg)
Builders are paying closing costs and a year's worth of monthly mortgage bills to lure buyers, says Joshua Cohen, an agent with Wilkerson Real Estate and Investments in Las Vegas. More builders, such as closely held Pageantry Communities Inc. in Las Vegas, are offering incentives including $10,000 that buyers can allot for price reductions, equipment upgrades, closing costs or mortgage payments, he says.
