Fun From the Homes Sales Front

Two tidbits from the home sales front:

  • Searches for “homes for sale” at major search engines correlates well with monthly new homes sales figures from NAR. And the live data for August suggests that the next release, scheduled September 15th, will show an increase. [via Hitwise]
  • This morning on a San Diego radio station I heard one of those ubiquitous cash-out mortgage ads, except this one had a big difference. It warned that real estate prices are falling, so you had better “get the best mortgage you can and get cash out of your home as quickly as possible”. After all, you don’ t have much more time. The advertiser was Park Place Home Mortgage Corporation. If anything is going to cause panic in San Diego real estate, this is the sort of thing that will do it. Remarkable stuff.

The San Diego housing market is really amazing to me. I live down in the Gaslamp and have been looking at condo’s. Most are down 50k+ already, and I’ve seen some repriced 100k less.
I’ll pick something up soon! What’s that investment quote… Buy at the sound of cannons, sell on the sound of trumpets.

i am not sure hits on “homes for sale” or such ilk is a reliable indicator of a level of buying interest. just as likely to be a symptom of seller angst trying to understand what they are up against.

Hudson: Well that’s great, that’s just f*n’ great man. Now what the f*k are we supposed to do? We’re in some real pretty sh*t now man… That’s it man, game over man, game over! What the f*k are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?
Burke: Maybe we could build a fire, sing a couple of songs, huh? Why don’t we try that?
Hudson: Game over man… Game over!
