Wal-mart and Amazon, Part III
I keep nattering that Wal-mart will buy Amazon.com by the end of this year, and after tonight's results -- Q2 earnings down 58% -- I'm sticking to that admittedly non-consensus view. Like a less profitable Google, capex at Amazon continues to outpace revenue growth, which helped ker-whack earnings this quarter. The bottom line: Standalone technology companies this size that don't scale are a luxury that can't stay freestanding for long.
