PostApp?
Anyone out there on the PostApp beta? I like the idea of syndicating functionality via widgets, but without being tied directly to either ads or merchant programs it's not clear to me how you get paid for doing it.As an aside, the company just closed a small financing round with Hummer Winblad.

Hi Paul
I just did a blog post on the very subject - see http://blog.nooked.com/archives/2006/06/widget_marketin.htm
Business models seem to be evolving - widgets, with information, certainly beat static banner ads.
Regards
Fergus
Although fartikus refers to applet type widgets, we believe that the coming Widgetsphere will be comprised of interactive code snippets that run within html pages. The whole space of os based or walled garden based widgets is of minority interest. Our pitch is that widgets are a method of managing microcontent, the presage the arrival of the pciture-in-picture or bite-size web, where we choose and control what we put in our pages, whether to earn or just for the heck of it.
Paul,
I'm a huge believer in widgets as well, though I haven't tried out the PostApp beta. I just signed up today, and I'll let you know my impressions.
I've written a few posts about widgets:
"The Widgets On MySpace Strategy"

and
"Widgets - bringing out the flash / AJAX developer in all of us? Hardly!"

the widgets market is already years old and has clearly had little to no impact on the larger web. who really runs those giant weather applets? looks like another big YAWN. the web market has left the innovation phase for now, none of this stuff is putting jelly in anyone's belly. the next train coming in to the station is COST CONTROLS.
