Our Brains are Open
The lapsed (and not-so-lapsed) mathematicians out there might enjoy this photo that I just posted over on Flickr. Located not far from my office, it is a lovely paving stone dedicated to Paul Erdos by Ron and Fan Graham. He was a frequent houseguest of the Grahams, and during the later years of Erdos's wandering life Ron acting as a kind of Erdos locational clearinghouse.
An aside: Which professional athlete has an Erdos number of 1? Answer after the colon (drag your cursor to see): Hank Aaron. He and Erdos signed the same baseball at an honorary degree ceremony at Emory University.

As far as I know, the lovely Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years's Winnie Cooper) is the only professional actor with a finite Erdös-Bacon number. (A number of academics who have been extras in movies like A Beautiful Mind are also members of this small but noble band.) McKellar's undergraduate thesis, "Percolation And Gibbs States Multiplicity For Ferromagnetic Ashkin-Teller Models On Z^2" (Chayes, McKellar, and Winn) was published in Journal of Physics A. It's up her website if you want to read it, because doesn't it sound like a great beach book?

I'm dragging poor mouse all I can but don't see anything. (and for being Erdos I don't even have an Erdos number ...)
