Google Buys Orion Search Technology
Okay, after buying umpteen companies that had nothing to do with search, Google has finally purchased some search technology. Maybe the company is in search after all:Google has acquired the rights to a new search technology that offers instant answers to queries without the need to go to another website.
The leading search engine is reported to have won against rival bids from Yahoo and Microsoft for the technology, developed at the University of New South Wales in Australia.
There's more on Orion here, from which it seems like Orion is definitely going to bring out the copyright cops. Sizable text excerpts alongside search results? Yoicks.
