Watching the Valentine’s Day Detectives

She pulls the eyes out with a face like a magnet.
I don’t know how much more of this I can take.
She’s filing her nails while they’re dragging the lake.
          — “Watching the Detectives”, Elvis Costello (My Aim is True, 1977)

The WSJ has a bleakly comedic article today on how Valentine’s Day is a big day annually for private detectives. Appended to the article is a list of some of the less advertised Valentine’s Day technologies … you know, stuff like slim GPS’s, spy software, and line recorders.

obPersonalAside: I always mishear lyrics, and for the longest time growing up I was convinced that the last line of Costello’s above verse snippet was “Schistosomiasis was found in the lake.” Hey, what can I say.
