Style boxes are never popular among professional investors — they label you and force you to stick, sometimes slavishly, to a description unrelated to performance — but the best one-liner put-down of them I’ve seen in some time comes from Bob Olstein in the weekend Barron’s:

“style boxes … are the same as picking physicians by their height”
