Survey: Page 3 Required?
Mike Arrington has had CrunchNotes for a while, and Om Malik now has his Daily Om, should I do something similar? I've avoided it in the past, thinking it was easier for me and for readers to put everything in one place. But one upshot is that sometimes there are things here that don't fit the technology/finance/money theme. So, should I create a "Page 3" for those items/posts?

I would have to disagree with John -- not to mention Om and Mike. CrunchNotes I can see because TechCrunch is more of a business than a blog, but I likely won't read Om's link-blog thing, and I actually like it when blogs are a big stream of consciousness thing with all sorts of long and short and personal and whatever mixed in. But maybe that's just me.
Thanks John and Mathew. Interesting that sentiment in the poll seems to be running strongly in the direction of no separate Page 3-ish site. Thought for sure it would go other way.
Paul, I think your blog is perceived more eclectic as it is - that's part of your personal style, so no point breaking it to pieces. TechCruch has a sharp focus, the personal tidbits would not have fit that theme. Once again, there is no one-size-fits-all solution :-)
Part of the value of a blog is getting that stream of consciousness flow from a person who's stream is worth paying attention to. As soon as you break it into two or more channels you double the effort it takes to check in (two or more places to look instead of one) and lower the value of the original channel (making it more anemic). Re posts that aren't super on topic or not of particular interest to a reader, what's the time it takes to skip over them? Maybe a third of a second?
Do yourself a huge favor and keep anything offtopic offsite. I do that with my "effluvia" page, and its avoided major problems with anything politically incorrect, crude or even mildly offensive.
If anyone really cares about the off topic stuff they can find it, and you avoid the genteel folk getting their panties in a bunch. (essays & effluvia? No, that's not mine, its my alter ego's page . . .)

I think that you should have a separate page. I created an experimental page podtech.wordpress.com and it hasn't impacted my main podcasting site podtech.net (which is a blog of podcast posts only).
I think it's a good call. Your blog is good and adding to the portfolio of content is a great idea.
