   OK, what gives here? I just noticed that Google has started running cryptic little “Web Clips” above my Gmail inbox. I’m sure these Web Clips have everything to do with organizing the world’s information, and nothing to do with “monetizing eyeballs” or other evil pre-enlightenment activities.
   Anyway, the Web Clip currently running is this:
   Quote of the Day – Thomas A. Edison – “Hell, there are no rules here – we’re trying to accomplish something.”
   I’ve never heard this quote before, and now twice in one day. Is some meme chop shop in Silicon Valley actively manufacturing pithy new quotes for start-up CEOs to pin to their walls? Or has Google now gotten into the business of automatically generating content for blog authors, which Google can then monetize through AdSense?
   The mind boggles.

   this reminds me of the day I started at MSFT back in 93. The coordinator told me: “By the way if you can think of a better way to do this job, by all means do it.”
   This was a terribly empowering quote…for the rest of my professional life.

   i have seen the edison quote around my own office, posted near the seating area of a group that is almost completely unproductive and even sometimes poisonous to others.
