I added Evernote to my repertoire of software tools some time ago, not really thinking I would continue to use it. But I have. Matter of fact, it has become indispensable.
It is a toolbar-resident infinitely scolling “page” onto which you can type (or write) notes, clippings, images, and so on. You then tag them accordingly (or not), then keep right on scrolling. You can search for things by keyword, by date, by tag, and so on, and it is pretty much wide open and neverending.
I use Evernote for all sorts of things, ranging from notes during meetings, c/call stuff, project plans, snippets for articles/columns/blog posts, questions for companies I’m meeting, etc. etc. Evernote has ingratiated itself into my information life in an alarming way, replacing yellow sticky notes, but also adding a hyper dimension at the same time.
And did I mention Evernote is free? It’s free.

A dumped Onenote for the sake of Evernote. Great too l, but how do you use it for project management?
One “problem” I noticed: Foldershare keeps on messing up the Evernote file. That is, if you have Evernote autoloaded on both PCs, and auto-backup set. Evernote may just have created a backup of the otherwise unchanged file on the “passive” PC, but then Foldeshare will want to copy it over to the active PC I am working on… however, it can’t since it is locked. Only way out is to completely shut down Foldershare.
Solution: set Evernote to not make backups on the passive machine.
I use Backpack from 37signals for my To Do lists and notes. Requires me to be hooked into the internet, but then I usually am. For those rare times that I am not, I use the scratchpad on Google Sidebar and then just transfer it in. And I can have my notes on their own special pages.
thanks for the tip on Evernote.
I have been using onenote, but it is irritating enough that I was considering writing something to replace it. Evernote keeps me from needing to do that task
