Domain Name Availability by Length

A question I was pondering this morning: What percentage of domain names remain unregistered by length? In other words, I’m assuming that there are no unregistered all-alpha three-letter dot-com domains, but I see there are quite a few unregistered four-letter domains. And similarly, how many all-alpha five-letter “.com” domains remain available? I’m sure the percentage of unregistered domains rises quickly by length.

Of course, this is a data-intensive problem as name length increases. There are ….
…17,576 three-letter domains
…456,976 four-letter domains
…11,881,376 five-letter domains

For the curious, Domain Soup has a four-letter domain-name explorer. You’ll find all sorts of stuff available.
