Scott McNealy on Blogging, Acquisitions, etc.

There were two typically entertaining McNealy notes struck during a lengthy and combative interview by the S.F. Chronicle with Sun CEO Scott McNealy. First, we have McNealy on his own blog:

Q: I was told that Sun was going to set up a blog for you.
A: Yeah, (after) the first one I wrote, they said, “Nope, you’re not blogging.” It would have easily been the most read blog on the planet.

And then we have McNealy irritating shareholders with a flip comment about a recent multi-billion dollar acquisition. There are more than a few Sun shareowners out there who would have rather seen the money go into a dividend, so the following, however ironically intended, has to have been galling:

Q: Let’s switch gears. Last time you were here, you talked a big stockpile of cash that you had. You just spent $4.1 billion to buy StorageTek. First off, that must be a weird feeling to spend $4 billion on anything.
A: Easy come, easy go.
