Absenteeism and the Troubles with Network-Attached Storage
As I have remarked on before, the single most common topic on blogs is apologizing for not having blogged. So ... here is an apology for not having blogged (much) lately. I have been traveling like a fiend, and then my laptop went kerflooey. Nothing like losing a properly configured laptop to make blogging way tougher.
Speaking of lousy laptops, one of the things I have been mulling since having this problem is why network-attached storage is so bad. Why is there no transparently attachable storage device to which everything I store is auto-mirrored to a secondary drive?
Sure, there are various products out there, including this "nice try" from Mirra, but the prices are horrible (and Mirra's first go-around got indifferent reviews). The next big thing: Home network-attached storage. I want my own professional home storage server, and I want it now.
